They said it was a cheapy from Amazon. I will go down that rabbit hole
If you like it....that's all that matters.
Neil Young runs vintage C12N's in his Deluxes.
R is 1" voice coil.
Q is 1.25".
N is 1.5".
Nice job G. Very tempting!
I will need a couple of weeks to know how this sits in the mix.
Play it hard for about 50 hours to help loosen that speaker up... One of my favorite speakers (other than vintage alnicos) for a 5E3 is a Celestion G12H30 Anniversary...
You know what I recommend. If you can't find one of those...An Eminence GA-SC59 will fit the bill. Ask @The Strat Dude.
way cool !
Ok. So last post and report out.
The class at Mojotone was very well organized and presented. All tools were at the table, and nothing out of the ordinary. I think this class is for someone wanting to learn how to build an amp and then be able to transfer this newfound skill to the next kit build. The covered history and the design of the 5E3 and how this amp fits in with the Fender amp evolution. The two instructors were always available to check and/or critique, during the build and before the smoke test. Everyone left yesterday with a working 5E3 Deluxe they build. I would highly recommend this class.
I had not done anything like this in 40 years.
I did find that I am not enjoying the 9 hours in a car on I-95 much anymore. Geezerhood.....
That's awesome my friend, and I am jealous as I would like to build my own but am afraid that I do no need another reason to be obsessed with something . Congrats!
Congratulations, man! You are inspiring me to follow your lead as I have wanted to do this for quite some time.
Having built this amp, you literally know it inside and out and could probably be your own tech most of the time! Plus, the pride you must feel in building such a classic working amplifier that sounds good! Well done!
Damn cool when someone grasps the "I can do it" thing...
No stopping you now Stormy!
Very cool @Stormy Monday . It must have been a great experience. Do you think you might order any other kits and attempt at home? After all, you always need one more amp, and building it yourself makes for an easier sell to the wife, because your "saving money"
I am already getting grief about where to put this one. When the 5D4 Super shows up, I will have to start lining them up down the hall.
I came up with a good one when my lady asked why i needed so many guitars and amps.
I replied; Why does a painter need so many colors on his pallet ??
Feel free to use that if needed....
A really good name for a boutique amp brand: “Vacation Amps”
I saw that on Rhett's Youtube channel, looks like a great mancation!
A 5E3 amp is on my bucket list, but I'm all thumbs with a soldering iron. My amp tech would love to build one for me. LOve that tweed tone.
