Interested to know if there's a video on the web that epitomizes the first time you saw a Strat being played. By chance I came across this vid today and realized that it was when I was a little kid watching T Rex play this song that I first thought 'wow, that's a great looking guitar!' Love the tone too, though I didn't know a whole lot about such things at the age of nine!

It's lip synched, though there's not a whole lot of 'synch' going on :D

I think there was an accumulation of event where I started to notice a common denominator. And suddenly it was visible, that all of these people were playing a strat, in all of my favorite tunes.

One that stuck with me was this one, Gilmour at Pompeii playing Echoes. The soundscape that he manages to create with one guitar, I can remember just blew me away. I wanted to know everything about him, the band and the songs. I got my first guitar, which was a Strat copy, a sunburst, because of it. You couldn't separate me from that guitar!

Before this, it was Kramers, Charvels and Jacksons

This is also why my first strat was a pewter Strat Plus in 1991

There was no YouTube back then, but someone always had a strat in my dads bands.
I hated strats back then and wouldnt even consider one.
But i broke about an inch or so(including the first tuning peg) off the headstock of the model 6 charvel/jackson i had....the guy who fixed it loaned me a 70s strat and so i was forced to play one in the band i was in. After about a month i got the charvel back and something didn't sound right. Got rid of it and bought rehab. Played strats since then..... But now im using teles mostly. But not regular teles.... Warmoth teles i built myself with compound radius necks and super hot single coils.

It was the first electric I had gotten myself second hand. I may not have been aware that it was a Strat.
I remember my right hand bleeding playing it on Black Sabbath and cleaning the strings with white spirit.
For that it's a good thing kids have the internet these days, it would hopefully prevent them being as daft as I were.

Well I grew up with a one stringed sunburst strat copy in my house but the first time seeing someone really play one would probably be Hendrix at Woodstock. I also remember hearing you needed a strat to play Pink Floyd but I never really watched Gilmour play until later on.

Can't even find a decent video, but for me it was Jimi at Woodstock. As a kid in the 90's who initially got into guitar listening to Dave Matthews, I eventually got into other alternative rock of the day. Someone got me a the double CD set of Hendrix's Woodstock performance and it totally captivated me. All I really had to go on was the liner notes and photos (truly pre-internet early 90's days). That Strat definitely stood out in my mind as the definitive electric guitar at that point.

Yeah it was a big wooden box that sat in the corner of our living room, called a TV. It had 2 channels, the BBC and the not the BBC...

Nice! I was hoping to find a video of Isabella from that show. By far my favorite tune from that performance.

When I started on my musical journey, I was a bass player.

There was that moment though, where I first saw a 1970 Fender Jazz bass in the local instrument shop window. I couldn't afford it but saved and saved until I made the guy an offer he accepted. In that respect, this is like that moment...

For me it was 1979-1980 or so and I played a Sears catalog Les Paul copy. A buddy came to my house to "jam" for the first time and he brought a 64 or 65 Strat. It was interesting, but I never got the bug until just before I joined this forum.

Not a video but I remember flipping through my parents vinyl albums when I was a kid and seeing the guitar on the front of 'Just One Night'. That is probably my first time ever actually noticing a guitar much less a strat.

I was listening to Buddy Holly before I ever saw the Shadows in 1962, Dad's records, but I never saw any footage of him until quite a lot later.

I don’t think there was a video of the first time I saw a Strat that hooked me. Most of the stuff I saw one TV was acoustic guitars. Most of the kids in school played Les Paul copies or the real McCoy. I had a no-name LP copy but I knew two guys who played Strats and I had jammed with both of them; they were both a cut above anyone else I knew. This was before I got into Hendrix. I guess the allure of the Strat was that if you could play it, you didn’t sound like anyone else.
