I have 20 guitars in my music room right now. 12 of which are mine. The other 8 are son’s, daughter’s, and grand kids. I really got a good deal on all but one. They are: Stephen Faulk Ribot Classical Guitar Regular Price $4500.00. Paid $900 Epiphone Plus Top Pro LP. Regular Price $599.00. Paid $499 Fender American Special Strat Green. Regular Price $1099.00. Paid $850 Fender American Special Black. Regular Price $1099.00. Paid $800 Fender 1979 Strat 3TSB near mint. Paid 1800 Brian May Replica. Regular Price $6500.00. Paid 4300 Fender Vintera 70’s Strat Regular Price $949.00. Paid $800 Squier Bullet Strat. Regular Price $169.00. Paid $109 Fender HM Strat no discount. Paid $1199 Dean 79 V Regular Price $599.00. Paid $499 MusicMan STERLING Stingray Bass. Gift Ovation Celebrity Elite regular price $499.00. Paid $379 Total.$11,636 The Brian May and the 79 Strat were bought before I joined The forum, so subtract 6100 from 11636 and you get. $5536.00 The point is that since I’ve joined the forum 17 months ago I’ve bought. $9513.00 worth of gear for $5536.00 and all but about 600 bucks of it is paid for. Most of this was bought with MF/GC coupons and military discounts. I really have to thank Stephen Falk for giving me a tremendous discount on the Ribot Classical guitar. It was a one off, and was a prototype. And he cut me a tremendous break due to being a veteran. He basically sold it to me for the price of of a round trip ticket from Japan to San Francisco. Now with the Corona Virus looming, I won’t be buying any new gear. I’ve heard it said that the average musician owns around 10,000 dollars worth of gear. 9 out of the 12 guitars I have listed are mid priced to low priced models. There was a time not too long ago, when I was a well paid Ventilator Monkey that I had a really outstanding guitar collection. I had at one time 35 high end guitars. They got sold to pay for my wife’s surgeries, after she lost her job and her health insurance. She is facing more surgeries in the future, but things are better now, and I won’t have to sell anything to make her medical care happen. But going through that, I realize that there are great guitars at all price points. I don’t have to to own 30 5K guitars to be happy. And my wife is very happy to have me buy one a month, as I sold them all before for her, now that we can afford it again. But I won’t be buying any high end stuff any more. I’ve got a SQUIER that plays better than one turd of a Suhr I had. well, is it basically true? Do most of us have 10 grand or more worth of gear?
