Well, is it true that most of us have 10 grand or more invested in gear?

‘I have three amps and five pedals, but I don’t remember what I paid for the pedals. They are all rather old, except for my Memory Toy delay.

I'll be over 10k before the summer is over. I might be there now if you count the stuff my dad bought for me as graduation gifts.

I have well over 10k invested in orchestral samples and virtual instruments. That’s not counting virtual processors, hardware, mic pres, the Genelec 8050a monitors, microphones, etc.

**** I did not even think about the keyboards and synths either.

How is it that you can ignore something you play every day? Losing my mind...

This isn't all of them ... there are a couple bass pedals and a couple new ones not on the board yet ... it's embarrassing because I play acoustic most of the time, and rarely use pedals when I play electric ... but they're sure fun ... lol

I have several instruments that are worth about $450, including a tuba. I doubt if my gear adds up to 4k, but it might be close. My music gear AND my collection of cars don't add up to 10k.

i can't speak for anyone else but, yeah... i know i do.
i am trying to pare things down though, i swear.
i did buy a few Strat parts recently but they were to complete a guitar that i already had most of the parts for,
and i gave it to my beats maker as a payment for his work, so it doesn't really count as an addition to the
collection, and last year i sold, traded, &/or gave away 4 guitars and 2 amps i wasn't using to help fund the
purchase of some other guitar related stuff i wanted, and i used that stuff for recordings and for gigs, so i'm
glad that i did move the other stuff along.
So far this year i've given away two guitars, and sold one.
i hope that i can continue that process, but with things the way they are at the moment...
    we'll see.

Not counting any equipment related to anything that could be used for pro audio ( mics, processors, mixers, speakers, etc), I easily have more than 10k in musical equipment. And the great thing about that is that some of that may not go down too much in value. The right guitar may keep appreciating. My newest Elite I paid probably twice what it cost new (37 years ago) and I got a smoking deal. So that’s the nice thing about investing in musical gear. You get to have fun with it, and the right gear may appreciate.

Move to pro audio and you’re screwed. Mixers devalue like computers. Just in three analog consoles bought for around $40k, I sold them for under 2k after five years. Now digital consoles are so prevalent that they’re becoming dirt cheap even for (formerly) expensive used ones. You don’t want to know how much I’ve spent over 30+ years of buying sound gear. Worst investment ever. Sucks.

I’ve got about 70k invested in my wife’s knees and hip. Does that count? And my daughter is an ongoing expense...and I drive a 14 year old minivan, so no to that one.

Just adding up all my guitars, mods done to them, pedal board setup, and amps I definitely am at or above the 6-7k mark

I’d say that figure is probably fairly accurate for me as far as what I own at the moment. Over the last 30 years, it’s been quite a bit more. No where close to some folks here though. Holy crap.
