Is the Rebel Yell similiar at all to the Super Distortion? Like the Holy Diver supposed to be like a JB and the Miracle Man supposed to be like a passive EMG 85 from what I understand. I've been curious about their pickups but have no experience with any of them although they seem to have quite a loyal following.
If we're talking about a HB in a Strat then nothing I've ever played comes close to the JT Supercharged Studebaker in my player strat. If we're talking about PAF type clones in general then the OX4's in my Tokai LP and the Burstbuckers in my 335 never fail to impress me every time I plug in. A mate has a set of Wizz PAF type clones in a LP and they're as good as anything I've played or heard.
From a pickup maker: Fralin P-92 and Armstrong hand wound 12 pole From a guitar maker: Gibson BJB and 490R
I have never seen one on a strat but the mini HBs I had on a 1970 les paul deluxe were the most versatile pickups I ever had. That guitar sounded great.
I got my JT pickups from a reseller in Thailand because the JT webstore was closed at time because of C19. https://www.iguitarmusic.co.th/en/category/4787/1184/190/james-tyler It looks as though the JT webstore is open again: https://www.tylerguitars.com/shop/supercharged-studebaker-humbucker-pickup
Depends on the mood for me. I like Seymour Duncan pickups and I have JB, Custom Custom, 59/Custom Hybrid and Pearly Gates in my guitars. Don't think I could pick just one because I like certain characteristics of each of them. The CC and Pearly Gates are both in a Blacktop Strat and with the 5-way switching, I can't imagine needing a tone that I can't get out of that guitar.
For the music I play...Rock, blues....I like vintage PAF style pups. I currently have Monty's PAFs in a LP, MHS pups in a 335 and a Raw Vintage PAF in an HSS. For my jazz guitar I have a Bartolini HB. All are great, and all are keepers.
I have a collection of out of production pickups from a company called Mad House Designs. I love them more than anything I've ever used. I have one set that he wound specifically for me that are A8 mags with the neck wound to 14k and the bridge to 20k...they are the only a8 pickups I've ever used so I don't know if the magic is in the A8 or something else. But they sing man. I also have one guitar with an old set of the david allen johnny blades in the neck and middle to go with the MHD bridge. Those are some sweet pickups too.
I am very happy with the Lollar imperial reg wind humbuckers. They are on a Carvin SH550 and have the coil splitting too. They sound so good. Perhaps it's the semi hollow body but they sing. I have to say that the single coil bridge sounds kinda like the0 neck Stratocaster but with volume and a hard attack its p90all the way. The humbucker neck is PAF strong. I have been happy with them and should I ever sell. The original pups go back on and I would think about installing on a strat. It would be a first for me.
