What are these holes?

I bought this MIM Blacktop Strat today. Guitar looks new, no nicks, dings or scratches, zero fret wear. So I was pretty surprised when I popped off the Pg and saw these holes. They were obviously drilled after the finish had been applied. Are these some previous owner's attempt to lighten the guitar slightly? No way these are factory, correct?

Seems weird an owner would drill a bunch of holes on a guitar that looks unplayed.

Your picture isn't showing, but I am guessing you are talking about the three in-line holes. Those were used for CNC machine alignment.

I usually don't have issues with pictures, my bad!

Definitely not the CNC alignment hole, which is also visible.

No idea why anyone would do that.

Oh my GOD! This is a very IDIOT try to let the guitar be more light. There is no chance that the horrible thing was done at factory. If I knew that thing I would halved the price.

Maybe if they tapped on the body for a percussive note in the area Where the holes Are it would give a different tonality.

Maybe to plug some holes elsewhere on the body?

Tried to get it to sound like a LP :p

The origianals are not the internet rumored (first knee jerk answer) cnc.

They (or it) are there for body identification (mfc. line).

Well, the upside is that you have a body that can now be routed for a Clapton boost without worry.

Mysterious guitar circles like the crop circles. I’m not saying its aliens...

    .

The large central circle of the pattern is common to MIMs -- so when you have a partscaster you can easily see it's a MIM body not MIA.

The extra drill holes are not even a real attempt at weight relief. They must have been working on some mod madness, got interrupted, put it away, forgot about it, and sold the guitar.

    Looks like it.

It's just weird to me. Guitar has no other mods, no wear and tear. Usually you start a mod journey with changing out the pick ups or something, I guess he just dove into the deep end without water wings.
