That was ace, love the tone of that guitar, he looks so relaxed. I wanted to hear the trumpet solo so hunted down the rest of the video...

I've been listening to Don Felder's autobiography "Heaven And Hell" on audiobook.

A pretty interesting and unflinching read.

And....yup...he is settling a few scores. Henley and Frey do NOT come off well. (Apparently, the rest of the band called them "The Gods" behind their back because their opinions were the only ones that mattered.)

He is especially critical of their time together during the Hell Freezes Over tour, where he basically says that no one talked to anyone when they weren't on stage--and all those lines were scripted in advance. Lots of petty stuff. Frey and Henley constantly fighting over which studio to use for mixing, them screwing Leadon and Meisner over credits, removing their credits--and Felder's--from various tracks. Including minimizing Felder's contribution to Hotel California--which they had previously acknowledged that he basically wrote. Them offering no support at all to Joe Walsh--who Felder said was incredibly weak and fragile as he struggled to overcome his addictions. No one but the Gods being allowed to speak during press conferences. And Irving Azoff--was was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--was supposed to be EVERYONE'S manager, but--according to Felder--only protected Henley and Frey. Henley and Frey padding the payroll with tons of personal assistants who drew year-round salaries that everyone in the band had to kick in for. Azoff refusing to let anyone but the Gods see the financial documents.

Just lots of petty, alpha male crap from a bunch of rich guys who already had more money than they could ever spend.

While I'm sure Felder was no saint, his details have a ring of truth to them. Pity. Henley and Frey literally wrote the soundtrack to my teenage years. It doesn't change the music, but it would have been nice if they weren't such colossal douchebags.

So all aboard for the American tour,
And maybe you'll make it to the top.
And mind how you go, and I can tell you, 'cause I know
You may find it hard to get off.
