Personally I’m not a fan of the OP’s look, but I don’t mind the tort in general. My natural strat had tort but I swapped out the original HSS for SSS. The black loaded pickguard definitely does not look as cool as the original.
I’m neutral on it. It would look better to me with a rosewood fretboard, though.
I used to think Sunburst Strats were the most boring looking guitars. Especially if they had white pickguard. And even more especially with white pickguard and maple fretboard. But I’ve since learned that a rosewood board and the right pickguard can make the sunburst look much more interesting.
Never seen any tort guard on any guitar of any colour that I liked. But, as always, it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks.
Why did I open this thread? I hate red tort on anything. Don't like tort at all. Sorry, OP. It's your guitar, do what you like.
Not a fan of torts. Reminds me of a countertop….
OBTW...when you are playing the big venues a couple of years from now...everyone will want one.
I like tortoise pickguards on RW neck guitars w/ 3-tone sunbursts, blondes, and Oly Whites.
For me, they do not work well with maple necks or 2-tone bursts.
I don't typically like tort guards on anything other than solid colors. I could maybe live with it if it was a really subtle brown tort. But that one has so much color in it, it just feels like too much with the sunburst. That's just me though. I'm a graphic designer so I probably care more about color than most people. If it were me I'd go for either a classic look with a mint green guard, or a sleek look with a black guard and all black plastics. Either of those would be nice.
Tort only works on a red or white body, and preferably with a rosewood (or PF these days) neck.
Just my opinion of course.
Welcome to the forum!
2-burst is one thing, but I really enjoy my 3-color burst Am Pro II. At first I was thinking of changing the guard, but it grew on me. And now we are family. Maybe the great playability overshadows any thoughts about color in my case.

Personally, I prefer with a hint of red on the body - actually searched for ages to find one.
But if you like it without, go for it!
I like it! I usually don't because most of them are really dark and just look black. But this is really nice.
I don't favor it on a sunburst guitar.....but if so, better with a R/W fretboard neck than with Maple.
On that guitar, I like....particularly since I have one sort of like it myself:
It's your guitar. Dress it up any way you want.
I like tort guards , but to me they belong on a 3tsb rather than a 2tsb . Go with what you like , if you ask for an opinion on this forum you'll get all kinds of replies .
You must have some weird countertops in Canada !!
Tort does not work on any burst that I've ever seen. I have tort on my olympic white Standard Strat and my Candy Apple Red Jaguar, but that's as far as it goes.
But, it's your guitar. So, do what you want but keep the original guard for later.
In some way I like the tort pickguards, love looking at them, getting them, loading them with pickups and electronics, love the celluloid nitrate finish...
...and then when I put them on guitars I don’t like them anymore.
there’s definitely some kind of classy coolness to tort loaded guitars... as long as they belong to someone else.
