I'm working my way through the box sets of House (up to Season 2 now), & as there is nothing much of any interest on TV right now, this is a good time for that. As most of us know, Hugh Laurie is a talented musician & he's sometimes seen playing piano or guitar. He has some guitars on wall hangers, but how many does he have, & what are they? He has a sunburst Strat with a maple neck, 50s style. I've just seen one I don't recall seeing before, a wooden bodied acoustic with what looks like a single metal resonator - I'm not sure what that might be. And I have also seen him with a Les Paul, I think. Is that all? Has anyone seen any others?
And a Les Paul. Cant remember the acoustic guitar but I think it was a dreadnought Martin. Also an old National He has two Parlor/LOO sized ones, one Martin and one Gibson from 30's/40's that I'm very envious of.
I was going to mention the Flying V, that features quite prominently later on... The different guitars seem to come and go as the series progresses, he has some lovely old Fender amps too IIRC. I finished watching it recently, great show!
Are you confusing House with the actor who plays him? I wasn't aware that House had played any gigs - he wanted to to but Cuddy wouldn't let him.
I can't have got that far in the series, I don't recall seeing that. But I must admit that "Flying V" wasn't one of the answers I was expecting!
Hugh Laurie is an all-round cool dude. I knew that from the early days of "A Bit Of Fry & Laurie", which they recorded at Teddington Studios (so free entry ). Clearly a man of great talent. But if anyone had told me back then that he would play an American doctor in such a convincing way, I would have laughed. He was just "too English" to play a convincing American character. Boy, was I wrong about that!
I put this on in the background when doing other things. Been thinking the same thing. He plays the flying V and LP quite a bit later on.
That's what Costellos model was based on, it's basically the same design and structure of the Robert Johnson L00 but with the different fretboard material.
