Hi folks. Been reading the forum for a while but haven't posted until now. I just bought a MIM Strat that I can't figure out what it is exactly, and what it might be worth. I got if for what would be a really good deal if it were just a plain MIM Strat, but the Lace sensors, the toggle switch (neither of which may be original, I know), and especially the battery box on the back, are making me think it's a special of some kind. Please help.

    TIA,
    1stpitch

    Hey,

I think that model may be called Deluxe Powerhouse Strat with active midboost.

The toggle switch should turn the midboost on and off.

    Thanks. I'll start researching those.

    Good call.

It looks like it has been modified. I don't see that toggle switch on the production models. Also, the Deluxe Powerhouse came with an "ultra quiet Powerhouse pickup system," but this one has a set of Lace Sensors. I'm no expert -- just going from some online research.

Body, neck, and pickguard look like Deluxe Powerhouse.
The Lace Sensors and toggle switch are probably later modifications.
Deluxe Powerhouses came with 3 single coils, non RWRP, with a dummy coil and 12 db mid-range boost with active electronics. Clapton sign model had a 25 db boost.
Somebody might have modded a powerhouse to be more Clapton-esque...need to see under the pickguard to know more.

Thanks guys. Any idea what it should be worth in its current condition?

    Cool looking Strat.
You'd have to open it up, pull it apart and upload some pics to show what's been done to it and how, to get some idea on its current value.

Tough to value. If I was selling it I'd ask $400.

Thanks again. I'll be going through it in the next few days and will report back if I find anything interesting or weird.

But what would you pay? These modded babies can be a tough sell I find...

But it's got !Upgrades! so it must be worth double, right?

$350-$450 would be my guess where it would show up on CL.

I'll spend $200-$275 on MIMs -- that keeps me from buying too many guitars.
Occasionally though ... it works out.

I try to stay around that level as well but this particular hits all the notes for me. CAR, deluxe series maple neck, Lace Sensor pickups. If it played s good as it looks I'd pay $400.
