At least it's not dangling!
It involves arpeggios, and lightning fast sweep picking in a classical hard rock style.
Then theres guys like George Lynch/EVH that shred nasty blues rock hybrid licks.
My bank had a shred day. Very disappointing.
There are times old boy, when anywhere is better than here...
I never thought of it as derisive
Shredding is playing so fast that wrong notes will go unnoticed.
I'm a shredder. It just means you play the same things other people play, but really fast. I've seen shredders play all genres. Myself, I just pull it out a few times during a set nowadays. Too much that people get sick of it, no melody, or serving no purpose in the song makes you a wanker. You don't want to be a wanker.
What is reality?
A Shredder is a player who is fast and proficient

Unfortunately, most ST members have no idea how to discuss shredding in understandable terms.
It is fast playing, so fast as to invoke the idea of sonic shredding (think wood chipper on steroids)
Yngwie is a classic example of shredding.
I am not going to post in this thread.
Nah gah dah.
the ghost of Wes Montgomery is coming for you! Better keep your head on a swivel.
I turn the distortion up. Throw in some pinch harmonics every 15 seconds or so. Not care about WHAT Im playing just going as fast as I can.
