I have some ANSWERS. I spoke with my cousin who is older and is an avid fender enthusiast. He remembers my dad telling him the history of this guitar. Ok so apparently it was purchased used in the early 80s in an Anaheim Hills guitar store that he didn't remember the name of...and the guitar was A PROTOYPE with an EBONY neck that fender decided was too expensive to mass produce (ebony is an expensive wood apparently) well here's where it gets muddy, he couldn't remember if it was a prototype for a fender "the strat" or a prototype for a walnut stratocaster. In any case, production was abandoned because it was too pricey to produce and this piece was just a concept/prototype guitar. Not sure if this story that was told to my dad from the guitar shop is accurate but it's what he went on believing. Interesting none the less!

Very cool, that aligns at least somewhat with what was posted over at TheGearPage...early 80's, not quite a prototype but not quite a production model. Rare, but not necessarily desirable.

If it were in my hands, I'd keep it and play it...but at the end of the day, it's your choice :)

    I don't think we're "owed" anything.

I have only posted this guitar to this forum and eBay. Other people posted it to TGP and if it appears elsewhere on the web I have no knowledge of that. The guitar plays, but I am getting out one of my better amps tomorrow or Tuesday to really mess around and look for anything that might be off about it sound-wise or mechanically. Will post a full report after.

Darn, read through this whole thread like it was a mystery novel only to find out no one knows who did what to whom!

Hmmm. I still say mmmm NOPE. Too many fishy things, like adjustments at both ends of the neck. I would love a photo of the neck heel out of the guitar to see the butt end.

Well the guitar is not THE WALNUT STRATOCASTER.
The guitar in question does not have a one piece neck and has a 2 way truss rod. The one in the picture appears to have a truss nut at the heel.

The book is referring to The STRAT (Walnut).
It has the same features of the STRAT but made out of walnut.
