I came by it honestly with my dad being a concert trained violinist and my mum playing the euphonium (in HS) . Violin in hand @ 3 and plunking at a guitar from 5 the whole deal was cemented when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show! Can ya' blame me? I was young and impressionable!:D

Yep, it was the chicks for me also.

Spoiler. My wife cares little for my playing as do my children. (The best laid plans...etc..etc)

Just for shiggles and bits, I watched a Twilight Zone episode that I'm sure that you would enjoy. It's called Nightmare At 20,000 Feet (circa 1963). Our buddy, Will Shatner starred. It was the episode regarding the man confronting the gremlin on the wing of the airplane. This episode made it to the Twilight Zone Movie. As always, Mr. Shatner was on his game.

As John Lennon said (maybe on Cavett) to get a little extra (at least I think it was Lennon).

I never wanted to be a musician...I wanted to play guitar.

It crept up on me. Probably the last straw was listening to Time and hearing the solos tear into my soul for the 100th time. I decided at least to learn how to play a little bit of guitar. Didn't take me very far, but I do love playing.

We've talked about this before. I met Bill on a flight into Louisville about 35 tears ago. He and I sat together on the plane. I was reading the latest issue of The Blood Horse. He took notice and we chatted for a couple of hours. Buddy might be a bit too familiar of a term, but, we had a nice talk and I would definitely feel comfortable downing a few bourbon and bourbons with him.;):D

Oh god I saw that movie tripping in the front row. The rabbit in the hat trick was kinda terrifying/hilarious. Ah, those were the days.

Actually, no. Bill spoke to me first. He saw the magazine and asked if he might take a look. I said sure. We chatted a bit and started talking about trainers. I said, my name's John. He said you can call me Mr. Shatner.:D He really did, but he laughed. It kind of helped that I knew some horse trainers (friends of my dad) in the business at the time (gated horses, not thoroughbreds) that Bill was familiar with. At the time Bill had a farm in Shelby County Kentucky where he had a stable of Arabian horses.
