I have had Slinkys on my Les Paul for 10 years and haven't changed them. Still plays great - just a little dull on the highs. I would say all of my guitars have strings that are at least 6 years old on them. I don't play them that much and changing strings is a pain on 14 guitars. I guess if I get back into recording this summer I will put new ones on a few to record with.

    I have guitars as follows:

Europe: Big Apple Strat, Am Deluxe Strat, Am Series Strat, '62 Tele Thin Skin, Martin D28

Americas: AO '50s Tele, American Professional Strat, Taylor 114

All my electrics are with Ernie Ball Slinky strings, D28 is with Martin PB 0.13 and Taylor is with Martin Acoustics 0.12

I go back and forth every 6 months. Last time I went to Europe, got my Big Apple Strat with strings I put on in 2014 (and yes, I write down every time when I change strings) and couldn't put it down all night. The strings played fabulously.

Nevertheless, on my AO 50s Tele (which is my main instrument right now) I have replaced the strings 3 weeks ago and the Ernie Balls feel really dull by now.

In any case I try to weigh, how much playing the string would get and EB Slinkies seem to fit the bill with cost/quality/longevity.

+1 on this. I have been using Gibson Vintage RI's on my electrics for years now. They last a long time for me, and they sound great. I have D'addario XT's on my acoustics, and I like them.

As long as you stay with reputable brands, and keep them clean, you should get decent life out of any of them. But, the lighter gauges, 9.0 and smaller, will not lats as long as haevier gauge sets.

I can’t stand elixirs, don’t like my strings wearing condoms.

I have Elixirs on my bass guitars so I guess that makes them Trojan Magnums?

Elixir for me, I have acid alien sweat and ordinary strings turn black in a week!
