Lately while seeing a few bands live I've noticed their guitarists using Finger Ease spray.
One fantastic guitarist in particular sprayed it liberally over the fretboard of his guitar.
To me this stuff seams greasy and in my mind would add up to crud on the fretboard!

I use Lemon oil. It's good for wood, it keeps the strings clean from my crossive fingers and it makes the neck super slick.

I used it years ago when I was starting out on guitar. Over time, I realized that I didn't really see a whole lot of difference between the Finger Ease spray and my habit of washing my hands before I played my guitar and wiping down the strings after playing. Granted, I play solos in church. The only strenuous thing I've done on a stage was playing the drums.

Just my 2 cents.

I use Fast-Fret myself: not for lubrication but because my sweat is unusually corrosive and I sweat a lot when I play, especially onstage. I have to keep close track of the flight hours on each set of strings.

Even wiping down with Fast-Fret after a set, I can get only three hours stage time before strings are at risk of failing. I can get 5-6 hours rehearsal or jamming time, though, partly because I sweat less and partly because it isn't so critical no breaks happen.

I can see how Finger-Ease would be mighty convenient for lubrication; you could do a quick spray between tunes whenever you want. And it can be used on the back of a sticky neck too.

I've also heard of players spraying WD-40 on their fretboards; IMO this is a pretty bad idea. Not only is it a penetrating solvent, but it also contains powerful drying agents. (I believe WD-40 actually stands for Water Displacement formula #40.)

Been around since at least the mid 70s. Never tried it. Seems like a product in search of a problem.

stops string talk? what is string talk?
Me thinks wound string noise as you move up and down.

"Reduces finger tenderness". Sounds like it was / is intended to be marketed to beginners who know no better.

Tender finger tips? Shut up and play more. Pansy!

I have some, and have for many years. I don't use it all the time, but it doesn't feel greasy to me, and works well. I saw SRV play about 3 months before his untimely death. He walked onstage, and like it was his normal routine, he grabbed a can of Finger Ease off an amp, sprayed the neck front and back liberally, gave the neck a quick wipe with a rag, and went to town playing!

I think it depends a lot on your skin chemistry, the finish and condition on the guitar, and the weather that day to determine if something like this benefits you on occasion, all the time, or not at all.

I like periodic conditioning with Dr. Ducks to keep things moving. Makes me play like Jimi. When is was 12, but like Jimi.
