I feel like theres trends in pickups. I barely hear people talk about pickups that used to be popular years ago much anymore. It's like every 5 years a new winder comes around to raving reviews and everybody jumps on that and on and on.

So i have a 2 part question my first question my question is:

Which companies in your opinion are the new top 5 pickup winders currently in 2020?

Is there pickups from say 2006 or 2008 even up to 2014 that were very popular that aren't mentioned anymore that you still use?

Lot less chatter about Harmonic Design, Fralin, Van Zandt, Suhr, Pete Biltoft, Rumbelstiltskin, Tom Short, Motor City, Voodoo, OcDuff and Rio Grande to name a few. I owned several and all are very nice just different. Wish I keep the Van Zandts.

Well Peter florence unfortunately died. But those were the first boutique company i remember when i started looking at boutique winders..... like most ppl i started looking at Seymour Duncan n dimarizo but i found myself wanting a company i could talk to directly. Cause it takes forever for Seymour Duncan to respond back and when you do get a response it's never from him lol

I haven't heard of any of those companies. The first boutique strat n tele pickups i bought were from lollar. But i really didn't understand strats or teles in 2010. I think in order to really know what you want it's important to be a student of the instrument you n listen to every example of that instrument. From the 50s till now. Listen to videos n clips til you can hear them in your sleep. Talk to ppl and eventually find the sound. I didn't get back into teles and strats until 2017.

I don't hear people talk about electric city pickups really. I got 4 sets of his stuff and i believe he got sick n used disappeared from the guitar scene. Spent afew times on the phone with him. Good guy i wonder how he's doing nowadays.

Top in 20: Lollar. I have imperial HB in bridge and p90 in neck of my SG. Amazing quality, thoughtful design (like voicing HB-size p90s for 500k pots), and top level customer service.

I wasn’t in aftermarket pickup market 15 years ago, but had an 06 Strat that came with SD Pearly Gates in bridge. Still rocks!

Rob DiStefano of frettech.com. Winds what you need, knows what he's doing, is communicative, and produces a stellar product that's not cheap, but priced rationally.
