My favorite neck is on my Charvel. It has a compound radius fretboard from 12" to 16".

I've never been bothered by radius differences so I'm happy with that. My favorite however is 12-16.

I doubt that I could tell you what radius I'm holding.

I thought so too. Then I’ve been playing 7’25’’ for a few weeks while leaving my Baja 60s in its bag. The other day I brought it out (what a nice tele!) and suddenly I noticed that the board was a bit flatter.

Anyway, I like 7’25’’ best but 9’5’’ is no problem at all and I agree with those who say that WITHIN THIS TOLERANCE neck profile (and fretwire) are more important than radius. Interestingly enough, per Nacho Banos’ “Blackguard Book”, the ’50-‘54 Fenders broadasters, nocasters and teles had inconsistent radii that varied between ≈7’ and ≈9’5’’. 7’25’’ only emerged as “the vintage radius” in time, as new tools allowed more consistency.

On any Fender type neck (seems to include knockoffs), it’s really a tie between 7.25 and 9.5 but since I like 9.5 as much and there’s a bit more margin for error setting one up, I chose 9.5. But my overall best feeling neck is a roadworn tele with a 7.25” board and I may eventually add a roadworn strat to get that feel on a strat too. But my Cray Strat with its 9.5” rosewood board gives up nothing in playability and I love that guitar overall (I’m a hardtail guy), so I’m not getting a roadworn until and unless I can convince myself there’s any reason at all for me to own more than one strat. Which there’s not, so I’d have to do some serious convincing...

I’ve never played a Fender type neck flatter than 10” that I liked. Tried a few with 12” that I really WANTED to like and just didn’t, couldn’t get myself to. I’ve had various Gibson, Epiphone, Ibanez type necks with 12” boards that I LOVE. I have an Epi ES339 with P90s that I love with a 12” board. Not sure what it is with flat Fender necks but they just don’t feel right to me...

Whatever guitar I have to hand at the time has the best radius.

9.5 I guess.. but how my hand wraps around the neck is probably more important to me.

I can get along with about any fretboard radius, but the neck profile needs to fill my hand. The SRV asymmetrical profile is growing on me though, as long as the bass side is a chunk. I’ve been going with large profiles and 7.25-9.5” compound radius on Strats and Teles lately.

7.25, possibly because my first Strat (a mid-80s Tokai Goldstar, to be precise) had that, and afterwards no other radius felt as comfortable in my hand. I had a Tele with 9.5 for a long while, but it never felt as good, no matter how much I played it.

I’ve mostly played 12-16 for years, but 16 certainly isn’t my preference for barre chords. Then I tried 10, and that was even better. Then 7.25, and that’s awesome, then 9.5 and it feels fine too. Anything 7.25-12 is great, but I am really enjoying that 7.25. I don’t notice the theoretical drawbacks, only that my hand is more relaxed, and strings still bend.

9.5 or 10 seem to be what I'm liking currently.

Ah thanks! I could play either one all day, no difference to me. But if push came to shove, the 9.5 handles chords better for me, the 12 I can 'shred' on a bit tighter.

Ironic the popularity of 7.25 and the fact that Fender has discontinued almost everything with that radius.

Getting to the point at which I’m pricing replacement necks with a 12-15” radius...for all but 1 of 25.25 necks. As I’ve ripened (aged) the flatter the better.

I think my Fenders are both 9.5 so I'm good with that

My Gibsons are 12 I think. But the 339 seems asymmetrical so I'm not sure. The LP and the SG are both 12. But I really don't pay much attention to all that. I just grab them and play
