Rum was served to all the traitors; pygmies held themselves in check
Bloodhounds nosed around the houses, down dark alleys sailors crept
Six bells struck, the pot was boiling - soup spilled out on passers-by
Angels mumbled incantations, closely watched by God on high

I am going to learn the solo from that. I’ve been putting it off because every time I learn a solo from a song I like, a little bit of the magic disappears when I listen to the song.

All around me are familiar faces
    Worn out places
    Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
    Going nowhere, going nowhere
The tears are filling up their glasses
    No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow
    No tomorrow, no tomorrow

You just had to go and throw in The Boss in there didn't ya:D

On a rattlesnake speedway in the Utah desert
I pick up my money and head back into town
Driving 'cross the Waynesboro county line
I got the radio on and I'm just killing time

If we're going with Springsteen, I gotta add:

I left a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack
I went out for a ride and I never went back
Like a river that don't know where it's flowin,
I took a wrong turn, and I just kept goin,

Endless juke joints and Valentino drag
    Where dancers scraped the tears
Up off the streets dressed down in rags
    Running into the darkness
Some hurt bad some really dying
    At night sometimes it seemed
You could hear the whole damn city crying
Blame it on the lies that killed us
Blame it on the truth that ran us down
You can blame it all on me Terry
It don't matter to me now
When the breakdown hit at midnight
There was nothing left to say
    But I hated him
And I hated you when you went away

What follows is a solo that is raw and full of passion that cuts right through you. It's something that transcends any words that try and fail in attempt to define it.

One of my favorites - From "The Pass" (Rush):

All of us get lost in the darkness
Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
All of us do time in the gutter
Dreamers turn to look at the cars
turn around and turn around and turn around
Turn around and walk the razor’s edge
    Don’t turn your back
And slam the door on me

Too many favorites to list, but this was playing in my car this morning:

"Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
    Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died"

The lyrics to “In My Life” have always been some of my favorites.

    There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
    Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

    Everything runs right on time
    Years of practice and design
Spit and polish ‘til it shines
    He thinks he’ll keep her
    Everything is so benign
    Safest place you’ll ever find
    He thinks he’ll keep her

Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy...

Last Sunday morning the sunshine felt like rain.
The weeks before, they all seemed the same.
With the help of God and true friends
    I've come to realize
I still have two strong legs
    and even wings to fly.
