after I got my Thorn social R/S 089 I haven't played my strat too much, nor my LP.

The Thorn is simply a monster, and believe me, My Ultra hangs out with the best Suhr out there and puts to shame the others, but the Thorn is on it's own Universe.

has this ever happened to you?

I'm glad this came up... I just got a Suhr alt t pro. My strats and teles haven't seen any action since. It's almost a bittersweet feeling. 20171103_145235.jpg

I did a few months ago, but here:

My Old beloved Strat Ultra with Ron Ellis pups:

And the new queen and NO , it is not a Honeymoon phase.
My Honeymoon phase with my Ultra lasted since 1991.

I have been offered Tom Andersons, Suhr's, Les Pauls , etc, that is how good the Ultra sounds!
This Thorn sounds better that any guitar I have ever played!

Yeah I played my ultra for a few years, eventually I retired it because of fret wear..... I played that thing for hours every day until about 2006. Since then I've played many different types of guitars, but now all I play is my 64' strat and my 65' SG Jr.

I've learned that for me at least, I can never consider my #1 dethroned for a good 2 years at least. My almost 20 year old #1 has been what i thought was dethroned several times by others that stayed there for as much as 2 years or even more, But #1 always reclaims it's top spot eventually. Seems the honeymoon stage can be a hell of a lot longer then you might think. Of course this is only the case if your #1 is truly exceptional and worthy of that designation in the first place.

I view all three of my Strats as my number one(s). They're all equally great playing instruments and I divide my playing time between all of them.

I played my new one for about a week and then went back to my #1. That was 10 years ago. The new one still only really get played when #1 is under the weather.

My #1 will always be as such. Sunny will never be dethroned because I've grown up with her for the past 20 years.

However, recently I've grown accustomed to single pickups from two of the new guitars that I acquired this year. Since about March or so, Sunny has been on a long deserved vacation from gigs and jams.

When the vacation is over, she'll be ready. :D

My #1 has been my 1993 Plus Deluxe since I bought it new as a 20 year old punk lol...I've had plenty of honeymoon phases since with plenty of other guitars but keep going back to her. That's the one in my avatar, tobacco burst. I've since put her back to stock with the Lace Sensor pickup's. Every time I play any other guitar (and I do) I feel like I'm cheating on her lol

Always nice to get a new guitar and be obsessed with her/him. The tried and trues sit there patiently waiting for you to come back to them and realize the reason you were obsessed with them when you first played them. Eventually everybody learns to get along and no one is neglected.

Holy f*ing hell, that Ultra is amazing!!! 0.0

The looks of the new one, sorry to say, can't hold a candle to it's predecessor.

Sound-wise... the P90/Single/Single combo looks intriguing.

But man, that Ultra... if it had a 6-point, I'd nag you with offers to buy 'til the end of time!
That finish... that dark fretboard... man, I love it...

A bridge P90 is an amazing sound for leads, and I can only imagine how good one would sound in a strat. I'd probably be gushing a bit too.

I rotate my guitars, don’t have a number 1. Always have a strat and one Gibson or Gibson style ready to go..

My Ultra was my #1 for many years (1991) liked so much I bought 2 more, so I have 3 Ultras, 1 being a CS set neck. My #1 kind of bounces around, as my spending ability improved, so did my hoard of guitars. Each one of my guitars are unique & fantastic instruments. This is a lifetime of buying really nice guitars. My current player is a 1984 AVRI in mint shape with a recent refret, also have a 1982 AVRI red back p/u Strat. I could go on & on, about each guitar.

Well, I missed it first time around...BEAUTIFUL Thorn!

Pete is one current guitarist I absolutely admire! I can imagine anything with his name attached is excellent!

I often fancy having a Suhr or Thorn...they sound like remarkable instruments! But I'd have to part with at least two of my current 3 electrics and man, do I love them!

So, unless I either save or get handed (LOL) $2000.00+ I'm happy to be happy with what I have!

Best wishes with that new beauty!

    Brin
