I've been toying with the idea of building a "ground up" Strat hardtail that utilizes a good quality, pre-routed, and prefinished body in my favorite Ocean Turquoise color. I have been looking for such an item for quite a while, but can only find them built into "Elite Strats" or "Custom Shop Relics", and don't want to pay that price just for a body! Does anyone know of a source for such a "specialty" body that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg? I do want a quality wood with good quality workmanship, but really don't know where to start this search. Help!

    Hi, @axejock -Buddy

Warmoth might be able to do hardtail in that color.

I prefer nitro finish so I may need to look at LPB Vintera Roadworn Fender.

Warmoth does a color called Taos Turquoise that may be the same, or close.

Buy the body and sand it and prep it, then take it to a autobody shop and tell them the paint code, they can also match it. It would be your best bet for a flawless finish. I did it with a Iceman kit, came out perfect

I can recommend Dustin Bloomer, BloomDoom Guitars. Good communication and easy transaction. Seems like a nice young man with his act together.

I've heard this advice many times over the years but every time I call an auto body shop they want $300 to paint a guitar body. My son works at a big dealership as a body man and I've asked him what they'd charge but he keeps forgetting to ask. I figure I might be able to get a break through them.

I won't tell you exactly what they say here, but it ends in "off".

Maybe MJT will do one without relic'ing it for you.

How much did they charge to paint it?

Yep! You gotta “know a guy.” My guy did it for 40 bucks each, because it was a fun challenge for him to try out new stuff, and he has all his own equipment.

If you walk up to a body shop and ask, I could see them trying to charge a load for a small job.
If it came down to that, I would definitely go MJT and they’ll provide the guitar body too.

I emailed Warmouth about this and they did not answer at all...guess I can write them off. I'll try MJT and see if they are interested. Thanks for the suggestions!

Warmth is incredibly backed up at the moment. I bought a neck from them in March and I didn't receive it until June. for a while they had a disclaimer up on their website apologizing that they wouldn't be able to answer specific emails because of how behind they were. I think they were like four to six weeks behind and answering emails. Covid really messed them up.

MJT responded and said that they do not do anything but "relic" work. Hum?

I must have missed that post. You have a link to it? I saw it with a neck in the pic of the surf green body with the neck attached, but didn's see anything about it being for sale.

What's it loaded with? and asking price?

Boy, I'm striking out on this pursuit (hardtail Strat body in Ocean Turquoise) and I'm beginning to wonder if I should just take one of my STD Strat bodies with tremolo routing and send it to somebody who could strip, repair nicks and gouges, and refinish it in my color? I suppose it's even possible that a good wood-worker might even be able to fill and hide the trem routes? Success on this project seems to be quite a way off!! Any suggestions?

Did you ever try Dustin Bloomer? I don't know what his schedule is like right now but I'd give him a try. I was very happy with a two tone sb I got from him. Nice light ash too.
