What is this hole? It is in the Classic 50`s. What do you think about it?

I believe the hole is a tunnel leading to a secret chamber in the body that is prolly filled with gold and emeralds and ruby's. Thats my guess :)

Maybe something stuck in it to support the body while its getting painted ?

That kind of looks like the hole for the grounding wire from the volume pot to the bridge. If that wire were missing, you'd have a ton of noise.

I think it serves no purpose at all. Human error is my guess. A grounding wire would be coming the opposite side close to the claws, not the block.

Never seen anything like it. Was it new when you got it?

Also, I read the title and half expected you to have gambled away you MIM. 'I'll go all in! Will you take my guitar as collateral?'

In that case there's nothing to worry about - it had to pass some QC after all.
Now I have no idea what exactly it is, but if you really want to get behind it, take the neck off and see if there's a 5th hole in the neck pocket. If there isn't, that mysterious hole must have been used to hang the body, like it has already been suggested.
Or, if you take the bottom strap button off, can you see light though the mystery hole?
