Alternatively, had he lived it may be that he just fizzled out. Nobody knows.

To me Jimi seemed to have lost his way musically over the last year of his life. The regular drip-drip of releases we get these days of recordings he made and songs he wrote before he died only confirms it for me. But apparently during his last few months he was talking to jazz musicians about whether they took him seriously and would be interested in working with him, so he may have headed off on an entirely new tangent if we were lucky enough to still have him with us.

How about Bill Carson? Surely any discussion on Strat players should include him? Yet, have yet to see him mentioned. Leo Fender did design the Strat for him.

Terry Kath of Chicago was a really underrated guitarist. Don't have a favorite though.

Guess I'll put my thoughts in again. Glad to see someone mention Terry Kath. Too short of a life also. Got to see him when they were The Chicago Transit Authority. I mainly remember how loud they were and his version of I'm A Man. Thanks for mentioning him. Got to see all the top players over the years. They go without saying, JH, SRV, EC, Beck etc. I love Ronnie Earl on his Super Reverb, as well as Tommy Castro and Coco Montoya. Of the current players I like Ana Popovic. Iv'e posted this photo a couple of times. It came from Danelectro's Guitar Bar in Houston. Amazing player, voice and has a new piece of music coming out soon. Check her out!!!!

Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac used a Fender Stratocaster on the tracks for Rumours and the White Album. It can be heard on Say You Love Me and You Make Loving Fun.

My folks had the Hendrix/Otis Redding lp from Monterey. They liked the Otis side. The Hendrix side made me want to learn how to make a guitar sound like that. There are arguably better guitar players, but Hendrix is special to me.

Both kind of cliche, but also really like Stevie Ray Vaughan. These guys make strats sound like I like to hear them played.

I believe Wayne Kramer is criminally left out of conversations like this (though he may have been mentioned here, I did not read all 8 pages).
I totally think he has his own voice and is one of the stratocaster greats.

He actually used a great deal of different guitars at different times.

In fact of all the live footage I have seen he's using anything but a Strat.

Agreed. But he’s well known for his Stars and Stripes Strat and there are clear strat sounds on the albums. He had a signature Strat as well.
Clapton played Gibsons, Hendrix played Gibsons, The Edge played an Explorer, Knopfler plays LPs…
A lot of people on this list played other guitars.
Still, Wayne had a signature Strat.

After reading the post about "Clapton is God". I'd like others take on their favorite guitarist. Though Eric has stood the test of time but has mellowed with age there are plenty of other past and present guitar gods out there that deserve notice. I'll put Jeff Beck at the top. My reason being he has constantly evolved his playing and is as dynamic and stellar in his playing as ever. He also interacts with some of the best younger musicians in the industry. My next two Irish greats are gone but not forgotten. Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore(and yes he played Strats as well as LPs). There are many youtubes out there on these guys check them out they are like advanced guitar lessons.
I couldn't agree with you more about Jeff Beck
Then: Tommy Bolin, Ana Popovic.....etc. etc. etc.

Jeff Beck… he’s really the only guitar hero from the original bunch that kept progressing over the decades… otherwise I really like Joe Holmes (Ozzy and DLR guitarist)… and Jeff Healy of course… love his playing, but not always into the 90’s adult contemporary sound of the band
