My Two Rock cost more than either my CS Strat and Tele but not more than my Lowden.

I had a Lowden 032 that I sold during the pandemic, and still kick myself about — but it did pay for my Kemper, which I’ve used on quite a few paid gigs that I would have otherwise struggled to do (things like short times between set-ups in different venues). I still miss that Lowden thought, it was a beautiful instrument.

I love my Lowden. It’s a F35 limited edition. #5 of 70 made for George Lowden’s 70th birthday. Only 12 were sold in the US and only two made it to NC. Mine is one of 5 made with 5,300 year old ancient Bog Oak back and sides and red cedar top. The day after I bought it a guy on the Lowden forum offered me $10,500 for it. 176166DF-5C7C-4091-AF14-35D9EDCAF4F8.jpeg 8961B961-AB2A-4A5E-AE77-73C8743CD405.jpeg 6D2D048D-26B6-4936-A942-1C87A5560F05.jpeg C7522463-83BB-43B3-AD0A-D5D8635C2132.jpeg 240B2E21-C3EE-4999-9BB1-07EBECB29DC9.jpeg 7983A7A1-9E57-4018-82B4-E5F155208B31.jpeg 5249E808-210C-4AE4-A9D4-4965355230F1.jpeg F7DBCB90-DFDD-4355-B5D5-910139C909D4.jpeg

Wow! That is something else! I can only imagine how it sounds. That’s a special guitar if ever there was one… many happy miles!

When Keith @ 5 Watt World interviewed David Gilmore, he said something to David about the amp being the most important part of it all. Apparently Gilmore said just the opposite: the guitar is the most important part of the entire equation.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it was in this video with David GRISSOM, where they were talking about his new DGT SE from PRS. Keith was recalling the conversation between he and GILMORE to David GRISSOM, IIRC.

Off-topic: I'll have one of those Goldtop SE DGT's one of these days! Wow!

David Gilmour can say what he likes...he's David Gilmour. Lol. However, he places huge emphasis on the entire rig. He really scrutinizes everything.

Let's say over the years I played a lot of small venue gigs with a Fender Super Champ XD and a vintage JBL 10, which together cost more than the Tele copy I used a lot.

FWIW, I never owned a Marshall amp.
How do you like the super champ xd . I have the Vibro champ xd. It’s the 8” speaker, the gain is better than any pedals I’ve ever had.

I have a 63 bandmaster and a 65 showman. Both were bought fairly cheap. My guitars are probably expensive but I got them cheap too. Buying used is the only way to go for me. Wheel and deal for life, well not so much anymore. I’ve maxed out on what I’m really after.

I really liked the SCXD. Set as a plain clean Fender amp w/o channel switching and using a few pedals, or, using channel switching between the main channel (clean) and the 2nd channel for OD, it worked like, uh, a champ. Sorry....;)

Since it had a 10 inch speaker and I still had a vintage JBL 10, I installed that and then it got a bit heavier, but the tone was like a miniature version of the Showman w/ JBL rig I used in the 70's.

I used the original 10" SC speaker with the amp chassis from a smaller all-tube Fender Champion in some other cabinet.

So we may be coming from a little bit different POV's - you saying you like the speaker as part of the gain, and like my speaker sound really clean....but I've always been a bit different from most of my buddies that went the more standard way.

I like a little edge of breakup. I did swap out the stock speaker for a celestion.
