Why do I want a Tele when I only love Strats?

Don't bother with the Dot. I mean, Dots are great guitars, but they're not Teles. Buy a Tele. You know it makes more sense...

If I told you that I'd be a liar.

I went through the same ordeal last year, caved and bought a beautiful Mexican Tele, and see what all the fuss is about.
Apples and oranges. They are different in many ways. As you will soon find out...
Great choice on the Tele. You will not regret it.

You need a Tele. If you love a Stratocaster you will love a Telecaster. The same can be said for Jazzmaster. All these 25.5 Scale length Fenders feel similar.

I started on Strats when I was 12 and somewhere when I became a gigging musician I basically only used Telecasters.
My Telecaster love has been vomited all over the TDPRI for the last 15 years. I've gone back to the Strat the last few years and will continue to collect Strats moving forward. I still have two of my Telecasters that I will probably never part with, but they probably won't get much use any more.

I thought Teles were ugly and cumbersome compared to a Strat.
When I finally bought one to see what they are all about, I bought 12 more.

I have an Asat lll/ G&L.. It is Strat sounding but nothing compares to the original recipe.

When I had the Telecaster fever, I thought it sounded like the really evil grandma of the Strat. They're not too far apart in terms of years, but the Tele design is much more rudimentary, so it might as well be the grandma of the Strat. I'm still primarily a Strat guy, but I love my Tele. The fretting hand feels similar because of the scale length, but the way the whole guitar dresses against the body is very different. The balance is different because there isn't a long upper horn. A Telecaster has a lot of balls. It cuts through like a razor blade, and has more powerful lower mids. I don't use a Tele for a lot of things, but when I do things might get serious.

I found a Tele style made by Alvarez with both belly and arm contour as well as neck heel scoop. The neck is super fat. They have the belly contour on 2013 American Standard Tele's.

Correct, and Warmoth offers numerous different bodies with all different types of belly and arm cuts as well.

The correct way to put this is, "The Tele is a gateway drug to the Strat."

    You're welcome

I disagree. I've been playing Strats for 40+ years and Tele's for only a year or two.
IMHO the Tele is not "Intro to Strat 101"...it's a whole different thing.

And you can't use a dot as a snow shovel, they get all limp and soggy...

Coming from anyone else, I'd doubt there was bitter experience behind that comment.

Haha, I know, they're very different. I have both and occasionally go back to the Teles.

I suppose what I was really getting at was the drug angle. Nothing seems to fuel GAS quite like a Fender.
