If I went to buy one and the shop had two and one was perfect and one had this imperfection, I'd choose the latter. It makes it unique and adds character.

As a bonus, you can keep it your secret because it is on "your side" of the neck. Just don't play with your teeth.

Geez gimme a break...that is really being frivolous. It's not a defect...just a figuring in the wood and you don't even see it when playing. If the guitar plays nice and sounds great then why would this even be an issue?I would actually like that mark because it gives a bit of character. Are you gonna play that guitar or stare at it?

I've got something similar to this on the neck of my blue Silvertone. I saw it in the auction and it looked like figuring but it was a crappy pic. So, I took a chance and bought it. Sure enough, it's got some sort of figuring going on on the neck. I like it. Maybe I'll post pics here shortly.

I've also got something similar around the nut on one of my Silvertones in my avatar(the black one).

    I'd keep it.

I really think that some people would be better off buying guitars made of all man-made materials instead of wood. Maybe a nice plastic guitar?

Rolls Royce use only Scandinavian leather on their seats because there is no barbed wire to mar the hides.
I see no reason to accept anything less on expensive guitars and I'd expect knot and blemish free wood unless going for something like Birdseye or flamed maple where it is desirable.
I've had plastic guitars and they feel exactly what you'd expect them to feel like. Horrid!
    YMMV

I'd push lightly with a thumbnail. If you can dent it with just a little pressure, it's an issue.

If it's a knot, which is expected, it should be much harder than the usual maple.

Glad the op is keeping it.
It's not a defect, there should be no issue with resale value because of it.

Possibly, but $2000 doesn't exactly make this the Rolls Royce of guitars...

My local GC I visited yesterday would want to buy that back at a premium.

    They had near zero inventory...

Also I think finding another EJ in top condition at the moment would be impossible right now?
