    Always on my mind.
    Love Willie Nelson's
    Hate Elvis Presley's

Or there's this one. It's certainly different.

Gonna be some overlap with the "Best Covers" thread, just out of difference of opinion.

Disturbed: Sound of Silence. (Simon & Garfunkel). The song doesn't benefit from tough-guy posing--all that stuff doesn't really fit with the song's meaning.
Metallica: Turn the Page (Bob Seger). You think he sounds tougher, changing the lyric to "Is it woman? Is it man?"
Bad Wolf: Zombie (Cranberries). Changing the lyric to "drones" doesn't work for me, it doesn't scan. Plus I really miss the yodeling.
The Byrds: Mr. Tambourine Man (Bob Dylan). The original was just so good. It's all spare and haunting and trippy. The song just doesn't do it for me as a bippy-boppy pop song.
Tina Turner: Proud Mary (Creedence Clearwater Revival). I just like the original better.

Years and years ago my my university, through the student union, hired the WORST Led Zeppelin cover band I have ever heard. It was sort of like watching a really bad movie. You couldn’t take your eyes off of the band...but your ears hated you if you listened.

On two counts, don’t know what it is and, therefore, never had a use for it. What song is butchered for the ad?

This thread has me confused - is it the worst covers by professionals of known popular songs or worst covers you hear places by unknown bands trying to DO popular songs?

Okay well.. #1 worst offense to me is hearing the Red Hot Chili Peppers butchering a Stevie Wonder song. I go total medieval when I hear that.

As a soundguy that's mixed way over 10,000 bands I'd have to say "September" is the most widely butchered song ever. And I F'ing hate that song anyway so I may be a little bias... And it's their most famou s-hit
