We all wish we had an unlimited gear budget but honestly wouldn't that take a lot of the fun and appreciation out of it? A lot of the fun is trying to find the best gear in your budget and scrounge the used market for deals, right? I just feel like it would be too easy and also overwhelming if you can buy all the holy grail gear of your dreams. So I could play a '52 Tele into a 1964 Princeton reverb? It would just be too easy, you're just pointing at the stars and buying the same dream gear everyone else wants...'59 Les Paul, vintage Tube Screamer, etc. Have a real Fender Rhodes in the studio, a B3 organ...
If I had a massive gear budget most of it would be spent on the studio/practice space and attached house. That would then put me back financially to where I had to scrounge and upgrade to get what I wanted. I wouldn't chase collectibles necessarily, either. To me owning something simply because it's old doesn't make a whole lot of sense, I want stuff that does what I need regardless of how old it is.
I have 1,000 cable channels and it's seems there's never anything on that I'm interested in watching. Paradox of choice. Sometimes having less is more... Ah, who am I fooling? I'd have a warehouse full of gear. I love new things!
I love cheap guitars.. but if I had literally an unlimited budget, and unlimited space to store all the stuff.. I think I'd find ways to keep myself entertained.
I would buy a Bubba replica Strat built By Brad Gillis himself and a Soldano Half Stack, and build a home studio.
“You know what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he ever wanted? - He lived happily ever after!” Willy Wonka - Charlie and the chocolate factory Let’s face it: Lack of GAS is just a lack of imagination.
More to the point: Would an unlimited gear budget help my playing? Or would I just be a mediocre player with a big ol' pile of neat stuff that I can't do anything worthwhile with? TP
Not to me. I mean what do you do when you already have one of everything and an unlimited budget still? Get TWO of everything!
Id probably have more gear but, wouldn't go insane about it. I have 10 guitars and two amps. Have I gone crazy? Id maybe grab a couple more amps and quite a few more pedals. What I really need is a decent PA.
I'm not qualified to comment, there is currently a pages long discussion on my purchase of a custom shop Stratocaster.
In my case Yes In my case It would unacceptable... ==================== In the morning I like picking up my Takamine New Yorker And Touching it Like I'd touch a 44 year old woman Not knowing what I'm doing.... But Doing it AnyHoooo... Money Would make no difference....
I don't know. I wish I could afford to find out....................................... Really, though, half my fun is in taking something inexpensive and reworking it to my exact idea. Partly because my budget allows no choice and partly because I'm just a natural tinkerer anyway. When it wasn't guitars and basses, it was cars and computers. I have no totally stock instruments. They range from lightly modified(my P bass) to only the wood is original(my Affinity tele turned nocaster). So, with an unlimited budget, I might own a few vintage goodies and a lot of funky, offbeat stuff that I could mess around with. That's just how I am.
