Can you make up the difference by simple turning up the Amp ?

Fender should make one without those sucky raised poles.

I think raised poles are good for a tight radius neck but not for the newer wider radius necks.

I have a"90" Clapton strat w/gold lace sensor in pewter (looks like yours ZZDoc). I wouldn't change it for the world. I play it through a JCM Marshall stack and I can get any sound I need. STP60992.JPG STP60931 (1).JPG STP60925 (1).JPG

Clapton has been using noise free pickups since the 1980s with the Lace sensors and then changed to the Noiseless ones.Surely because playing in large arenas all over the world you can run into lots of issues with signal interference and noise so he no doubt prefers their resolution of such issues. Also he has the mid boost in his guitar so if there are hum issues being augmented by the mid boosted signal it would make the noise issues even more annoying I imagine.Dealing with 60 cycle hum in your bedroom or local pub is a lot more manageable than being pumped through a loud arena sound system.

I think we've all read a lot about Clapton's famous guitars (Blackie, Brownie, the red 335, etc) but his Artist signature models aren't given the same spotlight. His tech Lee Dickson always said Clapton called the mid boost on his guitars "compression" and really focused on that feature above the TBX, pickups, etc. Indeed the Custom Shop builds of his guitar has just a regular tone pot installed where the TBX control was.

I think Clapton likes being able to get his clean quacky Strat tones and an approximation of the old Woman tone with the mid boost. Whether or not he has the latest Noiseless pickups installed isn't a concern probably...

You COULD, but that would deprive you of the opportunity to buy more pickups.

You’ve obviously been duped by marketing hype. They are exactly the same thing, I think.

That’s interesting. Do all the Strats with Ultra Noiseless pups sound the same?

They're two different pickups. The Ultra Noiseless pickups come in 2 varieties, Ultra Noiseless Vintage, which are used in the SSS Ultra Strats and Ultra Noiseless Hot which are used in the HSS Ultras.

I wonder if Clapton even knows what pickups are in his guitar. o_O

I mean, it gets to a certain point when we jump over that fence and stop discussing gear and actually just play it....

I knew Clapton's Custom Shop Todd Krause made Strat's had gone to a normal tone pot instead of the TBX control that's still in the US Artist version. I DID NOT know that the CS Strat's by Krause now have 3-way switches (according to Clapton's tech in this video).

No one is going to confuse his current tech with the great Alan Rogan (sorry, the guy is just a bit dry and not very insightful), but he's got to know better than anyone.

You guy's ever hear about this before?
