Alright, like I said I'm not known with Gretsch at all, it just struck me as the Melita Synchromatic enabled more intonation adjustment than the other one, by just looking at the picture. I do find that leather belt unnecessary too, it seems a bit too much but maybe that's how country players like them.
I say---- Make the trade. The lowest I see the 6121s going for is $1400 (but maybe you'll love it!).. And you can realistically at very least get $700-$750 for the bass. Those 330ts are awesome and I've almost bought one twice but they're not popular. A '63 recently sold on eBay for $1675.. If you make the trade and you're in at $1000 you could be up $1100..
Also VERY into country/rockabilly appointments and own a Black Falcon... I do realize my tastes aren't for everyone.
I think I'll take the deal, I haven't even seen the 330 in months and I don't like it anyway. I don't get a tone I like from it and I want a bass. The Gretch is either something I'll have some fun with, or sell/trade it. Worst case I have something I'll play, in the bass and something I can trade to anyone for essentially no investment from me.
I had a very similar trade experience... I bought a '67 Martin 000-18 for a grand. Liked it but didn't love it, on the verge of needing a neck reset. I put it on CL and someone offered me a Les Paul. I told him I very much wasn't interested but he pretty much begged me meet him. I met up with him and the Les Paul was amazing and in NOS condition from 2000 (this was 2012-2013). The les Paul turned out to be pretty valuable, it's a Standard Premium Plus in Translucent Amber.. Financially it was a pretty even deal considering to make the Martin great I would have to invest in a reset.. But as far as a guitar player goes I got a very sweet Les Paul (for a grand!) that inspired a totally different type of playing.
Just realize that if you're looking at a pre2003 G6121, then the used price is closer to $1000 than some of the other prices we've been bandying about. But if it's a post 2003 it will likely be a pretty sweet guitar that might be difficult to let go of.
Just be sure the Gretsch is not a fake. I've seen fake Falcons and 6120s but not Jets though you never know. Gretsch fakes are very poorly done with bad Bigsby copies and usually have Made in USA stamped on the headstock like a Gibson.
Its a shop, I'd hope they did their diligence taking the guitar in. But rest assured I will look it over with a fine tooth comb.
Yeah, I used to sell stuff for a pawn shop. He wanted me to sell his gretsch white falcon. Was a total pos fake. Said made in Usa and had no markings on the pups. I told him that they are made in a Japan. Be very careful with the bass too.
I made the trade, I got the J bass with all the fixins and new set of strings and instead of the Gretch I got into a used bass amp and $750 cash. I'm happy
It was ugly, heavily played, smelled bad, didn't come with a case, the Bigsby felt loose... Just issues all around. I told him I wouldn't take it as part of the trade and I was doubting the trade and he asked me what I wanted to complete the deal. I got everything I asked for except I asked for $1000 back which I knew was a long-shot.
