I am compiling a play list and came across this.

What can be said about Yacht Rock that hasn't been said by various magazines, newspapers and disc jockeys across the country? J.D. Ryznar and Hunter Stair's saga detailing the unknown mythical origins of a previously obscure genre of music struck the audience like a lightning bolt on its first episode, much like fellow 101 breakout House of Cosbys. Unlike HoC, however, Yacht Rock was never sued by its iconic characters' real life counterparts.

I've never heard of Yacht Rock, or Channel 101.

Yacht rock is Christopher Cross, Rupert Holmes, Gerry Rafferty, etc.

called that, because it’s stuff that rich older guys listen to on their yachts.

Late 70's early 80's. Great production values. I miss that era (despite the fact that I consider myself an 80's metal fan)

When Kenny Loggins gets together with Michael McDonald, smooth magic happens.

80's genre personified, in my mind at least, by bands like Pablo Cruise, Boz Scaggs, Hall & Oates and to a lesser extent, Steely Dan.

Alan Parsons Project would sort of belong there too

It's a little more on the prog side... not completely Yacht Rock, but it's close enough.
AP really didn't get a lot of airplay on the top-10 stations in the late 70s... it was a little more niche like Yes.

Captain & Tennille... pretty definitive there along with Cross and Loggins.

I was listening to The Best of Christopher Cross just minutes ago. I am a Yacht Rock fan girl, and proud of it. Came of age during that time frame, played my share of that music on stage. Still play a few of those oldies, and love them.

I got flack for saying this before but it's really the truth. Steely Dan is probably the biggest pioneer of the late 70's and early 80's soft rock sound. Once music producers got a taste of their beautifully complex jazz based grooves, it was super-commercial time from there!

I like a good song. Some of those are great songs.

And I'd listen to any of those instead of Pink Floyd. LOL

I will say that I saw The Baby's open for Journey at the Long Beach Arena. They rocked.
