I just picked up a Player Plus Top Strat HSS from Guitar Center in their exclusive Green color.
Like I do with most if not all of my off the shelf guitars I proceeded to mod the heck out of it.
First….a Highway One Rosewood Large headstock neck..( gotta have the Large headstock!!), new pickups…DiMarzio Virtual Vintage 2.2(n) VirtuAL 2 (m) and an Air Classic (br), Brass Bridge block, Fender/Schaller locking tuners, and Graph Tech saddles.
This is a whole different beast now!
    This thing screams!!
    I’m loving it!
    It’s a process that I must do.

I apologize, but I really did like the look of it with the maple board. Anyhow, HNGD!

I'm not normally a "big headstock" kind of guy, but I must admit that it really works on this particular guitar.

And I have to admit that my first thought upon seeing the maple fretboard with the small headstock was that it looked a little "blah" on such a fancy body - so I'm in total support for the whole "rosewood 'board and big headstock thing" myself.

Such an over-the-top body needs a more "in your face" neck to match it - and I feel that it somehow looks more balanced now.

The only thing that seems a little out of place is that the bridge humbucker "zebra coils" seems backwards (the cream should be closer to the bridge like in the first pict, imo). Makes it look less than symmetrically correct. Otherwise...

    Good Job!

That could be arranged…..I will be putting it up on EBay.
If you want it let me know….I’ll avoid listing it.

Pardon my opinion, but I liked it just the way it was. If you were going to do all this, why not just build a partscaster?

What I think SoulSufer means is why didn't you just by a body, neck and parts separately? You may have spent more money this way unless you plan to sell your unused new parts.

I like the rosewood neck better. This could go on for years.

In my experience, finding the exact body for something as unique as the one @hwy1strat got can be nearly impossible to do.

My last project involved finding a Fender Duo Sonic HS in Crimson Red Transparent with a pau ferro fretboard - except Fender doesn’t offer one with that combination. So I ended up buying another (used) Duo Sonic HS with a PF fretboard and am now selling the loaded body (here and on eBay):

    https://www.strat-talk.com/threads/...-loaded-body-surf-pearl-free-shipping.565502/

Since the Duo Sonic isn’t exactly a common model, I had to be a bit creative.

Anyway, since I got the 2nd Duo Sonic for a great price and I already had a set of pickups for my project one (and assuming the 2nd loaded body sells for a decent price) all in all my custom Duo Sonic HS should end up costing me less than what the factory version (that I didn’t want) goes for new...

    Rosewood.

Maple boards are a failed attempt at Leo's typical frugality / simplicity.
