First post on a new board for me. I'm Kent and I come from a bluegrass/acoustic background but always had a desire to find an old electric of some kind and modify it, as I was an electronics technician and managed a test department for a tier-2 electronics manufacturer. Well, I never got around to finding the garage-sale special and retired early in July of this year.

I was surprised to receive as a retirement gift a Squier CV 70s Strat. Now the learning curve starts all over again. I'm so new to the electric side, I don't know what I don't know.

I'll be lurking for the most part and absorbing what knowledge I can from all you good folks.

    Thanks for reading

    Welcome to Strat-Town.

IME simply by reading threads that pertain to things you want to know more about and asking questions about specifics you'll pick up a whole lot over time. Forums can be great learning centers.

    Welcome.

I remain primarily an acoustic player, but I now have about a decade behind me of owning electrics. Unless you play 10's on your acoustic, I expect the biggest adjustment to be learning a lighter touch. I still strangle the heck out of the neck.

Good luck on a new leg of your journey!

Use the Force ( Search Function ) “Luke”.
There are years of knowledge buried just for the asking.
Kind of like the RTFM mantra.
So, welcome aboard from a former Electronics Tech turned Data Communications Tech/Egr.
We’ll help any way we can.

P.S. we would like to see a photo of your Squier..

Thank you for the advice. I've found your words regarding search function to be very true as I'm active on auto, radio and garage forums. I promise to search before I ask anything stupid.

That CV is a great way to start. A little finesse and it will play very nicely for you. You got an amp yet?

There are lots of folks here with a similar story. I stop playing many decades ago and in the past couple years have dove head long into electrics once I found the guitar for me. Prior it was 12 string acoustic. OK I like chords. Yeah this place is a great learning experience and fun too. Well welcome to the ride. I'll be seeing ya around.
