    never tried an Anderson or a Suhr, though I am sure they make fine quality guitars. I would consider a PRS CE, almost bought one before.
    Of course for the vintage Gibson fans, there is this;

    Once I went with the G&L and it's Dual Fulcrum I'd have a hard time choosing anything else.

    Budget unlimited, sure, bring on the PRS, Suhr etc... in the real world, I would probably go with a Yamaha Pacifica

    I have only bought 2 pre-built guitars in the last 20 years. I usually buy parts and build either strats or tele style guitars as I feel the need. But this year, as I stated before, I bought two. Both are by the Chinese/Korean maker Grote. Their ES-335 style with flame maple top and trapeze tailpiece and their Epiphone Century/ES-125T copy. Both in trans-red.
    The 335 copy was great out of the box only needing new strings and the string height lowered a bit (to my taste) at the bridge. Otherwise it was fantastic.
    The Epiphone Century/ES-125T copy also needed new strings and the neck needed a slight adjustment and the B and high E strings had three places where they fretted out. After breaking out my fret files and working on it, it also plays very nicely. It's very loud acoustically and sounds surprisingly good un-amped. It is fully hollow and the p90 is descent. The tuners are ok but I have a set of Goths I may change them out for.
    Other than those two, I built a telecaster and have an acoustisonic tele under construction that will have two F thinline style F holes and a piezo and a dog-ear p90 pickup. Real close to having it done.
    Here are pics of the Grote (hate the name.) Sorry for the web pics but my iPhone takes dark pics. These two set me back just under $400 total.

    Budget unlimited I would buy a vintage Strat or PRS Private Stock build. Would probably end up going with the PS though since my Silver Sky and Custom 22 are such incredible and I don't like buying used guitars.

    Go to the source in every case- the factory. So for example FujiGen (FGN) make the Ibanez Prestige models for Ibanez. The FGN Odyssey Expert is right up there with the best of non-custom shop guitars like the Ibanez Prestiges. FGN they also made some of the Fender M.I.Japan models at one time, but not now. And Cort is a massive manufacturer in Korea and Indonesia for a lot of other brands. I have a Cort Hiram Bullock which is very similar to the current G290 model - which if you stick some good pups in there and get a luthier to do a good set up is a great guitar - just doesn't have that Brand value thing - but you know for £550 for the guitar say £150 for decent pups, and say £100 set up - you've got a fine guitar for £800 set up and pups just how you want And some of the Chapman guitars are made in some very good Asian factories. The Rabea Massaad I've shop-played is an amazing piece of workmanship.
