There's more out there than you think. Some with live instruments and singing.
Much like with country, I like the old stuff. This stuff that passes for both genres today is laughable.
The old stuff is fun, because 30 years ago, you could still sample other songs. Now they only do it if the same producer wrote both tracks.
What song do you think they sampled for this track?
Geto Boys - Gangster of Love
Yep, bye speaker's.
How about how great LL Cool J was with his full brass band - better than the album cut
LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out Billboard Music Awds 1991
My favorite quote about modern country comes from the late great Tom Petty:
"Today's country music is just bad rock with fiddles"
That guy was one of my favorites, his album last DJ summed up the direction of the music industry today.
Same people saying it glorifies violence, drugs and sex won’t say the same about an old blues tune or even a rock song they like that does the EXACT same thing. Sampling can be genius, freestyling and beatboxing can be too. George Clinton approves..
Is it racist?
Outkast - Hey Ya, Live at Grammys
I don't dislike rap, I just haven't heard any I really enjoy.
Rap/hip hop and metal rap just don't do anything for me. If others like it then great, I won't say a peep. If it was your birthday and I knew you liked rap I'd buy you a rap cd. But I do get a bit annoyed when people jump all over you for not liking what they like or accusing you of not being open minded bla bla bla. Different tastes that's all. Not aiming this at @Paperback Rocker btw, just saying in general rant sort of way. I feel better thanks for asking.
Hey..."blues" guitar lovers....John Mayer fans...look who is playing with Travis Scott...
Metal Rap used to be great in the 90s
Faith No More - Epic
Whether I like a genre or not which is moot I have always found it interesting when two different genres of musicians so to speak come together and do something like this. I appreciate that they have mutual respect for each other musically and in my opinion liking it not not liking it is not the whole point, the big point is it teaches people to respect talent without having to bash anyone. Like when I first picked up a guitar, A LOT of artists that I went "eeeew" to cuz they weren't in my cool peer group listening list suddenly became "wow! they know what they are doing" and my appreciation for other genres and artists went through the roof. The guitar taught me a lot about life, something I didn't invision happening.. Really.
Sure hope that made sense!
Early 90s was the best stuff, The Wu Tang Clan and all its offshoots, Master P and No Limit Records, NAS, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Brutha Lynch Hung, E-40...that was the ****. Tricky and some of that European stuff was pretty good too.
But don't knock the new stuff just because of what you hear on the radio or whatever there is great **** out there like Future
I think anybody who sees my posts knows I am a blues, hard rock, heavy metal guy. But if we are going to blend genres it should sound like this. Hard rock with a rap thing going on.
Edit. If I wrote this jam it would have had a better solo. Sorry, I couldn't help but say that.
Run-DMC and Aerosmith.
Diddy and Jimmy.
