I found that the best pedal to beef up a regular SSS strat is my ProCo RAT. It was the only pedal that gave me enough gasoline to make a strat roar with the factory single coils.

I've heard that Tube Screamers do a good job too.

    How do you do it?

If you like the ProCo Rat check out the Digitech Gunslinger.

I got it for $30 on Amazon and after loving my Rat for a long time it booted it out of the chain.

I think If i could pick only one pedal (besides a tuner) the Gunslinger would be it.

For higher gain stuff I use either a Germanium Fuzz Face or a Friedman BE OD

for lighter blues I prefer a Prince of Tone Analogman

Pigtronix Fat Drive for the strat bridge pickup

I ain't technical, but I think it has cascading gain stages and not clipping diodes
    Some type of FET thing

I got myself few Xotics recently (BB AT, Soul Driven, AC and RC). Can't stop playing AC Booster. Such a lovely overdrive

Lots depends on what amp you’re using. A pedal has no sound if it’s own.

Original Zendrive for me mostly. I like the Dumkudo as well, and Lumpy's Tone Shop Liquid Lead, but if I had to have one it would be the Zendrive...

I no longer use any overdrive/distortion pedals. With my AC 30 I stick with treblebooster pedals. I have a BSM- BM-Q and a Beano boost. I am so much happier with an uncompressed (relatively) sound!!!! 2019-09-29 18.58.35.jpg

I tried a Germanium Fuzz too, but found it to be the most temperamental pedal ever. The SOB would change even according to temperature

Lately I've been playing with this combo, clean boost > SD-1 > TS9. The TS9 is such an iconic pedal it gets used a lot. The SD-1 is similar but a tad brighter/thinner. The boost into either of them though gives them a warmth that is super appealing to me. I also like stacking the OD's for higher gain stuff and the boost seems to keep them from getting fizzy.

    My experience anyway, ymmv

All my pedals are covered in dirt at the moment, therefore pretty dirty. I just left them outside in my backyard collecting dust.

Mainly a Boss SD-1 from the 80s. Long after I'm gone this thing will be still making that awful, but useful, noise.

I personally like the faithful Boss DS-1 and SD-1. Combined or standalone. Fiddy bucks each. Can't be beat.

Lately I’ve been liking Sunday driver and jhs mod soul food in parallel off of a pedal palette into the kemper input. Not sure what I have the mix knobs on or if I’m flipping phase on either one. I recently got a riverside but have yet to spend much time with it. Another fun thing I have been playing through is two big muff op amps. Also parallel off a pedal palette from the kemper loop bringing it in after the noise gate. I think I have them full on with different tone setting and one flipped phase and I bring that in around 20% on the kemper mix in. The pedal palette has got me experimenting a lot more. Having all that versatility at my fingertips makes me more interested in pedals. I have one pedal palette before the kemper and another in the loop.

I have not found the need for any OD / Distortion pedals on my Marshall DSL40c.

I do use a Boss BD-2 and a DS-1 on the clean channel of my Roland Bolt-60.
Never use the Bolt's built in OD channel because it's a terrible solid state channel.
