We all had games that we cherish till this day.
I had much fun in my early teens in the 90's with so many titles but to name my top 5 would be difficult. But I've mad a list of most important to me and to other newer titles that were hugely influenced by these games. I made the top 5 based of how long have I spent time on them.
So this is my tight top 5 list, that I play from time to time even these days.

    No 1. Starcraft 1 (1998)

    Starcraft-1-Wallpaper-5.jpg

    No 2. Doom 2 (1993)

    0f1e8a_5924370.jpg

    No 3. Quake 2 (1997)

    No 4. Half Life 1 (1998)

    halflife-2.jpg

    No 5. Blood (1997)

The reason why Starcraft is my all time favorite is because I've played it constantly, even
competitively for almost 11 years. If it weren't for this game we wouldn't never have eSports like they are today.
I want to point out some facts that were important to me and why I mentioned some of these games.
The music in these games are fantastic, especially on Quake 2, Doom 1 and 2 and Starcraft.
I would never listen to Metal music in my life, because it was always referred to me as a Evil Noisy Music...
When my friend introduced me to Pantera, Metallica, Alice in chains and Megadeth, I would never excepted it I didn't loved the DOOM 1 and 2 original OST. Slowly but surely I except the whole new genre of music because of these fantastic sound tracks.

Hope you share your favorite games and why were the so important for you.

    Cheers

Interesting that you would cluster these. I find them so distinct that they are hard to compare.

I clustered them more as their own genre. They were so different from anything available at the time, and still to this day set the bar for story driven RPGs

Not in any particular order. I did some stuff with Sven Coop and ran a Ultima Online (POL95 &97) server for quite a few years.

No top five but some of my favs over time, most from when I had kids around. Some from way back I can't remember the names of.. Like Galaga, tons of early games had a similar Centipede kind of style.

    Doom
    Duke Nukem
    Tomb Raider
    Tie Fighter
    Mortal Kombat
    Diablo
    Shogo (Mobile Armor Division)
    Grand Prix Legends
Halo (3 being my personal fav)
    MS Flight Simulator
    Elder Scrolls (Morrowind - Skyrim)
Assassins Creed - Up through Revelations
    Red Dead Redemption

I didn't play many PC games but I was addicted to this big time in the mid-90s. Doom as well to a lesser degree.

I'm not a big PC gamer, but I did the World of Warcraft thing for a few years with some friends. I started right about the time BC came out and I quit when they introduced the Pandas.

I played Star Conflict until it started to consume my life and finally got tired of the Pay to Win and the people cursing at me in the Cyrilic alphabet.
Played Minecraft with Boyo some until he outgrew it.
    Octodad was dope.
Gang Beasts allowed Boyo and I to toss each other off tall objects and into traffic and meat grinders which was great fun.
Tried to play a few others but I am kinda woefully bad and unwilling to put in the work. Most of the games are just way to complex for my limited attention span.
