I personally hate the look of a Zebra humbucker on a Strat...it looks so bad to my eye and is an instant dealbreaker for me no matter how good the guitar would sound otherwise.I am a traditional SSS Strat player but if I ever got one with a humbucker it would have to be a white or cream colored one to match the same color as the the other pickup covers on the guitar.I also would hate a black humbucker on a white pickguard too.I want it uniform...no contrast!!Even on a Gibson I don't like exposed humbuckers...it's gotta have the metal cover. So what do you say?

Cast my vote for I love the Zebra look but in this case I agree with you. Doesn't look right on that strat.

Another combo I don't like, I actually despise, are strats with maple bodies, black pickguards, and white covered pickups. I just don't get it.

I would say on that particular Strat it does not look good.

Depends on the color. On a black guitar, looks awesome. On the Sienna, not so much.

I didnt vote. If it sounds good, rock that hell outta that guitar. Some of the ugliest beat up guitars are some of the most iconic. Think EVH red/white stripe, SRV #1.

It looks better with a black PG and white covers on the M-N pups and knobs... that hides the slug coil and makes it look a bit more traditional.

Usually find it annoying. Sometimes looks ok.

Ya... I went Zebra on my SG.
Next string change, I'm putting chrome covers on them. JB/59... love the pickups, but I should have stuck with black.

What’s the story behind a zebra PAF anyway?
    Why were they mismatched?
Was there any difference between matched and mismatched?

    Luck of the draw.
It was random... not unlike the '75-'76 Strats that had black pickguards but still carried white knobs and pickup covers.
They were transitional as Gibson went from black to white toward the end of the 50s, and then back to black as supplies of black became available again.

    Typically I don’t like it
This guitar has a slanted zebra humbucker in a tortoise guard - can you see it?

At first glance I didn’t like this but I think I do. Matches the fretboard inlays. I don’t think I’d like it with dot inlays.

    I go back and forth.
I think I'd like it better if one of them were a reverse zebra so both creme coils were pointed the same direction.
